Dementia describes a collection of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain. It is not one specific disease. Dementia affects thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday tasks. Brain function is affected enough to interfere with the person’s normal social or working life.
In 2022, it is estimated that almost 1.6 million people in Australia are involved in the care of someone living with dementia. Approximately 65% of people with dementia live in the community and our area has one of the highest rates of dementia in Australia.
Please come along for breakfast to hear from members of the Greater Port Macquarie Dementia Friendly Alliance to ensure how your business is inclusive and dementia friendly.
