I sat down with Danny Eather from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service today to talk through the Bogey Bash, and one idea kept coming up in our conversation: golf days are about connection.
It’s easy to think of a charity golf day as a fundraiser with a barbecue attached. Danny and I see it a bit differently. The best golf days are the ones where people leave with a new contact, a new friendship, or a business relationship that started over a bad tee shot and a good laugh. The fundraising matters enormously, but it’s the connection that keeps people coming back year after year.
That’s the thinking behind the Bogey Bash. Two Cs: Connection and Charity.
Connection
Four people to a team, 18 holes, and plenty of time to talk. Ambrose is a great equaliser. Nobody needs to be a good golfer, and everyone gets to contribute a shot, or at least a bit of sledging from the cart. It’s the kind of day where you get to properly chat with people you usually only see at the odd event or in the back of an email chain. Call it networking if you like, or call it a work day if that helps get you out of the office. Either way, you’ll be building relationships with the local business community.
Charity
All fundraising on the day goes to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, a service that turns up for our region when it matters most. Every donation on the day helps keep that going.

The Bogey Bash is on Friday 16 October at Wauchope Country Club, proudly presented by Oxley Insurance Brokers. We’ll start with breakfast, play 18 holes of four person Ambrose, and finish with a presentation lunch.
